We Can Work to Stop Hunger
FoodOne of the questions I find most difficult to answer is the popular “What’s your favorite meal?” Not because I don’t have one, or the fact that it has changed many times since childhood (you know, just like childhood future ambitions. I can only imagine how many you had), but really because I think anyone would find my answer pretty strange!
Well, nothing is tastier for me than very soft bread with mayonnaise (or peanut butter), with a very creamy and warm chocolate drink! Well, if you find it strange, all I can say is “You just don’t understand!”
Just recently as I sat to relish my ‘inspiring’ breakfast, a thought dashed through my mind; I am enjoying this delicious goodness but, what about children who do not even have a choice? Favourite? It’s not even in their vocabulary. ‘Favourite’ means you have a choice. These children have no such luxury. They are gleeful for just anything that would ease the hunger pangs gnawing at their bellies.

In recent statistics, Sub-Saharan Africa is the region with the highest prevalence of hunger. One person in every four is undernourished. Poor nutrition causes nearly half (45%) of deaths in children under five – 3.1 million children each year. An estimated 23 million primary school-age children attend classes hungry across Africa.

Hunger isn’t just a ‘stomach thing’, and particularly for children, it’s indeed a lot more serious. It affects the body, thinking faculties, and even dreams! It’s however good to know we can do something about it, through the DailyCauses organization and #EndChildPovertyNow campaign. The world is full of complainers, but we can be agents of change!
